Hair Transplant

Male pattern baldness is the predominant type of baldness/ Alopecia seen today in hair transplant centres. In the last decade there has been tremendous increased interest in hair transplantation surgery through the use of micro grafting techniques which Yield follicle units resulting in very natural appearance. The surgeon most hair follicles from genetically preprogrammed permanently growing sites to balding areas through either of the two techniques viz. FUT/ FUE.

Follicular unit technique( FUT)

Follicular unit technique( FUT) / Strip technique utilises harvest of a predetermined strip of donor hair bearing scalp which is dissected microscopically to obtain follicular units. This technique permits the harvest of nearly 3000 plus follicular units in a single sitting involving a team of operators. It is the time tested gold standard procedure for hair restoration ever since it was introduced over the past decade.

Follicular unit exraction( FUE)

Follicular unit exraction( FUE) is the other technique of hair transplantation which utilises punches of a millimetre or Lesser in size with motarised units to extract the follicle in a minimally invasive technique which is also described as a scarless surgery. FUE yields lesser follicles in a typical session than compared to FUT. Presently FUE is in demand due to its inherently lower morbidity, downtime and other technical reasons.

Maxillofacial surgeons with their skills and aesthetic sense have performed hair transplants in

  • Androgenetic Alopecia ( Male pattern baldness)
  • Restoration of lost scalp and facial hair due to traumatic or burn injuries.
  • Restoration of hair due to congenital reasons such as in cases of cleft lip, removal of congenital Nevi , or AV malformations.
  • Restoration of hair loss postresection of skin lesions/tumour resections.
