Dear Colleagues,
It has been a constant
endeavor
of the AOMSI head office to increase the visibility, presence, awareness and
acceptance of Oral and Maxillo-Facial Surgery in various forums including the
medical community and in general public.
To further this goal, the AOMSI in the year 2013 designated
“FEB 13” as ORAL AND MAXILLO-FACIAL SURGEONS’ DAY
The day has been celebrated with great enthusiasm throughout the
nation every year. This year also, as a part of the Oral and Maxillo-Facial
Surgery fraternity we request you to
lead the way and make the event a success.
The biggest problems faced by the Maxillo-Facial Surgeons today
are employment and recognition. One being part of the other. The AOMSI has
always strived hard to make Maxillo-Facial surgery a household name. The one
opportunity to increase public awareness in our specialty is by participating in
social responsibility.
The
“Face- It!”
campaign headed by Dr. Sanjiv Nair and his team has found wide-spread acclaim
and helped in increasing “Road Safety Awareness” as well as awareness about Oral
and Maxillo-Facial Surgeons as Trauma Care Providers.
MANY OF YOU HAVE ASKED US WHAT IS SPECIAL ABOUT THE FACE-IT CAMPAIGN!
As part of a team that actively deals with “trauma” which is as
high as one per minute in our country, and as “Surgeons” being directly involved
in the management of the same, we have chosen trauma as a subject for our
awareness campaign- “FACE IT!” For
the same reason, we have made a high quality documentary movie on road safety
and its association with Maxillo-Facial injuries.
This is more of a social responsibility for the general public
which eventually will make
"Maxillo-Facial Surgery" a household name.
Tomorrow somebody with facial trauma will look for a Maxillo-Facial surgeon.
We are counting on you to play an important role on Oral and Maxillo-Facial
Surgeons’ Day.
What can you do to help?
•
Screening
camps in college/clinic/hospital.
•
Carry the baton of
“Face It Campaign!” forward!
•
Write-ups
or advertisements
about our specialty in local papers, newsletters
or health magazines.
•
Talks
or lectures
at local IDA or IMA branches.
•
Web presence via
Facebook, Twitter
and Orkut.
•
Electronic
media can be utilized by means of radio talks or television
interviews.
The ideas are many. Any one or more can be carried out depending
on feasibility and logistics.
All should note-
* This is a
selfless exercise to create awareness
about specialty
* This exercise should be done to
propagate the specialty and not for
individual promotion
* Kindly
document the events and efforts organized
to share with Head Office
