The AOSI was officially affiliated to the International Association during the Sydney
conference in 1977.
The AOSI was renamed as Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (AOMSI) in
1985.
The AOMSI is a registered organization and admits qualified Oral and Maxillofacial
Surgeons as Life or Annual members.
The Association has two major conventions every year. The Annual Conference is held
in November / December in pre-determined venues around the country. The Mid-Term
Conference is focussed on post graduate students and trainees and is a two day conference
held in June / July every year. In addition, the AOMSI officially participates in
Continuing Education programmes held by its members in different parts of the country.
The Executive Committee meets three or four times every year and is the official
decision making body.
In 2010 AOMSI has started forming new state chapters by the EC members which are
affiliated to AOMSI and constitutionally recognised by the Charter.
AOMSI has recently promoted an Independent Board i.e . Indian Board of Oral and
Maxillofacial Surgeons (IBOMS) to promote excellence in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial
Surgery by conducting examinations and awarding Board Certification i.e. Fellowship
Degree in Indian Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
